Cambridge Mobile Telematics Appoints New Leadership in Germany

New leadership to help German insurers reduce road risk and improve claims efficiency
January 24, 2025

Cambridge, MA, January 28, 2025 — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today announced the latest addition to its European expansion by launching operations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, or the DACH region, led by Paul Scott as Regional Director, DACH. Paul brings decades of expertise to CMT’s mission of making the world’s roads and drivers safer, with over 30 years of experience driving digital transformation in the automotive and insurance sectors across Germany, the UK, and Singapore.

“CMT’s global expansion is accelerating, and Germany is a critical market in our mission to make roads and drivers safer and mobility smarter,” said William V. Powers, CMT co-founder and CEO. “We are thrilled to have new leadership in the DACH region, a hub of innovation and progress in mobility. We’re strengthening our ability to deliver industry-leading AI mobility solutions that improve driver behavior, reduce claims costs, and save lives across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, furthering our impact worldwide.”

Throughout his career, Paul has held leadership and consulting roles at Solera, Audatex, Bdeo, CSC, and KPMG, where he consistently delivered innovative digital solutions leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as AI and Blockchain. He has shaped the future of connected consumer and connected car initiatives while co-authoring CSC’s influential automotive industry strategy, “Driving in the Cloud.”

Motor insurance in Germany navigating financial difficulties

CMT’s expansion into the DACH market comes at a crucial time for the German motor insurance industry. The market is under unprecedented financial pressure, with car insurers recording a deficit of over €3 billion in 2023. This financial strain has been exacerbated by rising claims costs, driven by the increasing expense of vehicle repairs and extreme weather events. In April 2024, mid-range insurance for a new car was 18% more expensive than in the same month the prior year.

The German Insurance Association projects that motor insurance gross written premiums will rise by another 10% in 2024. These hikes follow a broader trend, with motor insurance premiums reaching €30 billion in 2022, a nearly 50% increase since 2010. The escalating costs are also tied to fraudulent claims, which continue to burden the sector, further complicating insurers’ efforts to stabilize their finances.

Insurers across the DACH region can combat these trends with connected insurance solutions, helping reduce crash risk, improve claims efficiency, and increase customer engagement. Drivers also benefit, reducing premiums, gaining access to life-saving emergency services, and receiving insights into driving behaviors that can reduce risk and fuel costs.
