Cambridge Mobile Telematics Expands in Spain & Portugal with New Leadership
CMT helps Iberian insurers reduce road risk and improve claims efficiency with connected insurance programmes
October 30, 2024, Cambridge, MA — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today announced its continued growth in Europe with the appointment of Eric Notteau as Senior Director for Spain and Portugal. This is CMT’s third leadership appointment in Europe since June, following expansions in Italy and France.
Eric brings 12 years of experience in Software-as-a-Service, working with Iberian industry leaders like Revolut, Santander, and Mercadona. Eric has deep expertise in marketing technology and data analytics and has focused his career on solving complex challenges for clients. He joins CMT at a pivotal time as the company strengthens its position across Europe, growing partnerships and services for insurers in the region.
“CMT is rapidly expanding across Europe, partnering with leading insurers to improve road safety,” said William V. Powers, CMT co-founder and CEO. “Our connected insurance programmes have been successful across the continent, and we’re excited to bring that momentum to Spain and Portugal. With new leadership, we’re ready to help insurers in the region reduce crashes and claims, lower costs, and enhance road safety with the next generation of mobility solutions.”
Auto insurers in Spain are facing growing challenges today with rising crash frequency — 6.9% per vehicle — and repair costs across an ageing fleet of nearly 33 million insured vehicles. With over 60% of vehicles at least 10 years old, insurers are struggling with high loss costs and crash frequency due to more maintenance and greater crash risks. In addition to older cars, over half of Spanish drivers say they use their phone while driving, significantly increasing crash risk. Uninsured vehicles on Spanish roads are another obstacle for insurers, at 8% of all vehicles.
CMT has helped insurers across Europe address similar challenges. By providing real-time data on driving behaviour and crash events, CMT has helped insurers reduce claims frequency by up to 24% and crash-related injury risk by 5.5%. CMT’s DriveWell Fusion Platform, which harmonises mobility data across IoT devices, gives insurers the flexibility to choose the blend of technology and user experience that works best for them.
For Spanish insurers dealing with a 104.8% combined ratio, the opportunity to optimise costs and improve driver engagement is critical. Studies suggest that Spanish drivers are ready for digital experiences offered by connected insurance — over 90% of them check insurance prices online before making a decision. Leading Spanish insurers have already begun adopting these programmes, signalling the shift toward a more digital, data-driven future.
