Boston launches safe driving competition app [Fox 25/WFXT]
BOSTON – The City of Boston wants to keep you safe on the roads and it’s willing to give you a prize if you can help.
As part of the city’s Vision Zero plan to eliminate highway deaths, Boston has launched an app that will track your driving habits and offer rewards for safe ones.
With donations from Arbella Insurance Foundation, the city is offering more than $9,000 in prizes for the safest drivers. You’ll also be able to win awards like most improved and even more awards for riding bicycles, taking buses or taking the T.
The app itself is pretty simple to use and can be linked with your email address or Facebook account. It will send you updates on your safe driving score, telling you periodically how you rank among other Boston drivers.
Last year, the city reports there were 23 traffic-related deaths within the City of Boston. There were more than 4,000 reported injuries within the city.
So far in 2016, there have been nine traffic-related deaths.
In July, Allstate released a report that ranked Boston as the worst city for safe driving. The report said Boston drivers go less than four years between collisions, on average.
So the city is hoping the prizes will help motivate drivers to think about their habits and play it safe on the roads.
